Alex Stewart grew up in New Canaan and is a fourth generation New Canaanite. He attended NCHS and South Kent School and received his Bachelor of Arts from Heidelberg College. He returned to the family business and managed Stewart’s Spirits before taking over as General Manager of Walter Stewart’s Market in 2000. 

Today, Alex and his brother Doug own and operate Walter Stewart’s Market, founded in 1907 by their great-grandfather, along with the adjacent Stewart’s Wine and Spirits, founded by their uncle in 1974. 

Alex has served on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce and the New Canaan Cemetery Association and has been on the NCCF Volunteer Recognition Committee since 2017. He understands the importance of community and recognizes the need to contribute to the culture of generosity and support that embody the spirit of this town. Alex also enjoys mountain biking, music, and spending time with his wife Suzy and their children George and Megan.
