Anyone can be a philanthropist!
The Young Philanthropists Program (YPP) is a unique opportunity for New Canaan high school students to learn about the role of non-profit organizations in addressing community needs. YPP participants learn about local issues from community leaders, explore how they as philanthropists can make a difference, fundraise to amplify their charitable impact, and make competitive grants at the end of the year.
Participants attend monthly evening meetings during the school year, and have plenty of opportunities to attend site visits and fundraising events. The year culminates with an annual grant award celebration in May.
The Young Philanthropist Program is in full swing for the 2024/2025 School Year! Thank you to all those who are supporting their fundraising efforts. We look forward to reporting the grants that they provide in May.
If you would like to be involved in YPP next year, applications will be available and accepted in September 2025. Return to this site for a link to the application.

2024 YPP Awards $24,500 to 6 Local Nonprofits
This year’s class of Young Philanthropists, led by Co-Presidents Isabel Cavanaugh and Ethan Schubert, spent the year diving deep into three areas of need: education, food insecurity, and the enviroment. They heard from guest speakers and nonprofit leaders who broke down complicated issues and talked about possible solutions. In order to vet applications and help make decisions about funding, they visited nonprofit organizations to see their work first-hand. Funds were raised by approaching friends and family and painting faces at the Holiday House Tour. They also received a matching grant generously provided by an NCCF donor. The funds they raised, totally $24,500 were distributed among 6 organizations:
Community Resources for Justice / Family ReEntry
Mercy Learning Centers
New Covenant Center
Human Services Council
Domestic Violence Crisis Center
Children in Placement
NCCF is thankful for the dedication and commitment of these high schoolers and proud of the impact they have made in supporting those in need in our community. We look forward to working with a new class of philanthropist in 2025 which will be the 17th year of the Young Philanthropist Program. See below how you can be involved in YPP!
